The cable reels from Vivax-Metrotech are made of stainless steel tubular construction for rugged day-to-day outdoor use. Two cable reels are available to give you a range of options for various jobs such as the ultra-portable Type-M2 Reel for tight confined space use, entering vents from rooftops or for long-run small diameter laterals with access points in basements. The 200’ Type-CP reel which is the general day to day workhorse and the 400’ Type-CP good for the municipal worker concerned with checking main lines from manhole to manhole.

    Type-CP Standard Reel

    • Constructed of stainless steel tubing welded together and making use of gusseted plates in heavy stress areas to prevent the frame from bending. The control module can be mounted on top of the type-cp reel or the reel can be used in a vertical position. A drip bag accessory is available to protect against water splatter and to catch any water or debris when working indoors.

The smaller diameter pushrod used on the mini reel allows for inspection of smaller diameter lines from 2 to 4 inches. A drip bag accessory is available to protect against water splatter and to catch any water or debris when working indoors.

  • Camera Skids:

    Camera Skids

Camera skids are devices that attach to the camera head to 1) keep the camera head off the floor of the pipe, to help avoid pushing up debris and dirt on which will end up on the cameras lens blocking your view, 2) allow the camera LED lighting to function better by keeping the lights more centered in the pipe allowing a more even spread of light on the pipe walls and ahead and 3) provide protection to the camera head by giving a shoveling effect which allows the camera head to be lifted over offsets and objects which helps prevent the camera head from making direct contact with them. And lastly the skids will help increase the pushing distance of the camera and pushrod by providing a more non-binding material to slide against plastic, clay, metal and cement pipes.

There are a variety of skids for specific uses and camera sizes and few different methods of attaching the skids to the camera system.

    The skid installation types are:

    • Setscrew: Set screw mount screws are usually three set screws on the walls or base of the skid. The skids are fastened to the camera by tightening the set screws into the camera housing. These types of skids are referred to as models; Standard, Mini Roller, TrapMaster™, Large Roller and Type-B skids.
    • Spring Mount: Spring mount skids mount behind the camera directly onto the termination spring. These skids are used in sets of two to keep the camera head somewhat level (and sometimes three depending on the length of the spring). These skids are referred to as Pipe Spyders or Star skids
    • Clamp-Around: Clamp-around skids slide onto the camera head and are then tightened in a clamp type configuration. These skids are referred to as “Guide Skids”

    Skid ModelDescription, range and fit

Standard Skids are the protective covers that come as standard issue with new camera heads. The purpose of this protective cover is to avoid direct contact between the camera housing and the floor of the pipe. These plastic covers also lessen the friction between the camera housing and pipe floor to help achieve greater pushing distance. This skid is supplied with the D25, D34 and D46 series cameras.

2-1/4” Guide skid is a good skid to use in 4 inch with multible bends. The small diameter and rounded shape make this a good skid to use in 4 and 6 inch pipes. This skid fits the D34 series cameras for both the Mini and Standard reels.

3” Guide skid is a good skid to use in 4 inch and 6 inch pipes of all materials. The rounded shape helps guide the camera over offsets and leads it through elbows and through wyes. This a good skid to use in 4 and 6 inch pipes. This skid fits the D34 and D46 series cameras for both the Mini and Standard reels.

Pipe Spyder skids are the spring mount type and can be used in 4 to 6 inch lines. The flexibility of the Pipe Spyder when mounted on a spring allow it to lay down when going though elbows or traps and stand back up when through it. Use this skid on the 1 inch, Mini and Standard termination springs with the Mini and Standard Reels.

Mini Roller skid have eight wheels which help it roll through 4 to 6 inch lines. The shape of the Mini Roller allows it to push up on offsets and negotiate through seemed spaces, 90 degree and 45 degree bends in metallic and non metallic pipes. Use with cameras D25, D33 and D34 on Mini and Standard reels.

TrapMaster™ skid come in a set with pieces than mount to the camera head and also to the rear of the termination on top of the white sonde bulb. The combination of two parts both with wheels and sleighs help the skid go through 4 and 6 inch plastic pipes. Use with cameras D25, D33 and D34 on Mini and Standard Reels.

Large Roller skid can be used in larger diameter pipes to help keep the camera head centered in larger pipes to help make the best use of the cameras lighting. The Large Roller skid has adjustable settings for use in pipe diameters from 8” to 15”. When the skid is completely collapsed it can be used in 8’’ pipes. Use the Large Roller skid with the D46 camera attached to a 12mm termination spring. This adjustable skid works best in straight run applications such as running from manhole to manhole.

The Type "B" Roller Skid has adjustable size settings for use in pipe diameters from 8” to 15”. The six(6) polyurethane wheels help this skid glide through larger diameter pipes while keeping the D46 camera centered in the pipe. When the skid is completely collapsed it can be used in 8’’ pipes. Use the Type-B skid with the D46 camera attached to a 12mm termination spring. This adjustable skid works best in straight run applications such as running from manhole to manhole.

Light Kit for Type "B" Skid - This light kit easily attaches to the Type "B" skid with no tools required. This powerful 6000 MCD set of LED’s will enhance the video quality of the camera especially in the large diameter range from 10 to 14 inches.

Contractor Skid Kit contains all of the aftermarket skids (plastic skids yellow in color) and their accessories in a hard shell carry case. This kit is ideal for the contractor who wants to be able to handle a range of pipe diameters from 4 inch up 15 inches. The contractor kit includes:

    • 1” Pipe Spyder Set
    • 10mm Pipe Spyer Set
    • 12mm Pipe Spyder Set
    • Mini Roller Skid
    • TrapMaster™ Skid
    • Large Roller Skid
    • Larger Roller Light Kit
    • Large Roller Wheel Kit
    • Skid Adapters
